My topic for today is FOCUS. And why is that important? Believe it or not, every part of your success starts with FOCUS. Here in lies the problem. Goldfish have a longer attention span than we do. It's the truth. They've studied it. A goldfish has an attention span of nine seconds. Our human attention span is under seven seconds. Everything revolves around what you pay attention to.
Where FOCUS goes, energy flows.
Whatever you're FOCUSed on…
• That gets your energy.
• That gets your attention.
• That gets your imagination.
• That gets your creativity.
Your FOCUS creates your reality. If someone is FOCUSed on failure, they're going to fail. If someone is FOCUSed on not failing, they are going to fail. Why?
Our minds don't understand negatives.
So, when I say, “DON’T FAIL, DON’T FAIL, DON’T FAIL!” My unconscious hears, “FAIL, FAIL, FAIL!”
Let me give you an example. If I ask you to close your eyes for one minute, and I say, “Don't think of a blue elephant. Don't think of a blue elephant. Don't think of a blue elephant. Don't think of a blue elephant. What are you thinking of? You can't help it. Your mind has a vision of that blue elephant. It’s a mental picture.
The first thing you need with FOCUS is a destination. You need something that you can put your attention toward. When you don't have a destination you end up going all over the place, running around, with no rhyme or reason. And then you go home dog-tired. And you're feeling chewed up and spit out. You're not getting any closer to what you want for your dreams. And that's an issue.
You need a destination, a goal, a mission.
You need a goal. Because that goal is a tool to create FOCUS. People are afraid to set destinations. Why?
• What if I fail?
• What if other people laugh at me?
• What if I get rejected?
• What if I look silly or foolish?
Come on, are you worried about looking foolish? Look at me every single week. You can't be more foolish than this… but I have a destination. I HAVE A FOCUS. And that FOCUS is helping you. That FOCUS is helping you ultimately have a better business. And in the process, creating a better life. That's the goal. That's the FOCUS.
I want you to understand how important it is to have a destination. I want to give you this little coin. This coin is one free wish. I want you to dream big. I want you to create a destination that gets you excited.
Destinations created with fear don't get you excited.
Destinations must be created with imagination and dreams. Be firm on your destination and flexible on the path. That's a big thing. That's a Thomas Jefferson quote, because most people, what they do is they get very rigid on their path, and when the path doesn't work, they change the destination. They make it smaller, they make it less than what it could and should be.
So you might have to try a hundred different ways to do something. But don't ever give up. You NEED a destination to get that FOCUS.
Destinations created with fear, don't get you excited. And that's the whole idea. If you're not going to work every single day excited, ready to take the world over, ready to make a difference, then you're living smaller than you could and should be. Here's your wish. Here's your dream. I want you to dream big. I want you to have that destination.
Something worthwhile might be a destination you don't realize in your lifetime. And that's okay. Martin Luther King Jr. is the best example of a didn’t get realized in his lifetime. His destination was that he wanted his children to be judged by the content of their character, not the color of their skin. Think about that for a little while
