JUST ONE THING
Vision for Success
Episode 156
With Rick White, 180BIZ
Today, I want to talk about double vision. Most shop owners have single vision. That’s one of the reasons why shops are having a problem today. What is the single focus? It’s getting today taken care of. It's focused on what you're doing. And that is a great focus to have because it's how stuff gets done. But, even with a single focus, you must have awareness. The single vision has to be both a focus and awareness. Not only must you be focused on what you're doing, you must be aware of what's going on around you.
Back in the day when I was 18 or 19 years old, my fiancé and I were at Boston City Plaza when they had a laser light show. This was a long time ago, but it was very cool back then. Now, I am always very aware of my surroundings. As we were walking back to the train, all of a sudden, I pushed my fiancé out of the way. As she turned, there was a drunk in a little out cove and he had lunged out at her. She didn't see him. She was startled but grateful. And it was all about being aware. You want to be aware of your surroundings. You want to be aware of your environment. What's changing? What's coming? What do you see happening around you? It’s super important. For our single vision, we must focus on what we're doing and be aware of what's going on.
Most of you often feel like a victim. Why? It’s because no one is building tomorrow. The second you need vision is a vision of where you're going. A vision toward what you're creating. But because you don't, you're allowing situations, circumstances, and events to dictate where you go with your company. It shouldn't be like that.
You must have one eye on what you're doing and what's going on around you, and the other eye focused on where you're heading. You must be actively planning, and acting on where you're heading. Where do you want to go? Where do you want to end up? What does that look like? The clearer you are on that the better chances you have of actually creating it.
Always think about the double vision. We must take care of today. Why? Because if you're not focused on today, if all your focus is on where you're going, you will have no cash flow. You won't have money in the bank. If all you focus on is today, then you have no growth. You have no creative ability in your business. And because of that, you feel like a victim.
On the other hand, if your only goal is to get to the end of the day without killing someone, that's not thriving, that's surviving. You're merely reacting. You're reacting to low-car count. You're reacting to health issues, possibly your health issues. Part of that reaction is because you're not actively growing and moving toward what you want the shop to look like tomorrow.
Just want to reach out to remind you that our shop owners' roundtable is this Thursday evening at 7pm. And we're also having our webinar coming up on Pocket Business Genius on this Thursday.
I want to say thank you so much for being here, God bless, have fun and I go make some money. Take care.
