Today, I’ll talk about location. It's funny when we build a shop, it's all about location, location, location. It really is. But let me ask you something. What about how we're showing up? What's the location of our mind, our focus? Are we on a high, or are we on a low?
Your location is simply a moment in time.
Sometimes we mistake our location for our destination. But wait a minute. Your location is simply a situation. It is just a moment in time. There's that song that says if you're going through hell, just keep moving. Sometimes we get to a location, and we doubt ourselves, we don't have confidence in ourselves, and we end up staying there longer than we should. Instead of staring at where we want to go, our destination, we stop and stare at where we're at.
Every location has a lesson.
Every location has a lesson in it. And as soon as you can learn and understand that lesson and get your focus back on your destination then all of a sudden magic starts to happen. Blossom starts to happen. It's just amazing what can change and all it takes is to recognize that your location is not your destination.
Your location is dynamic.
For some people, the location is all the past failures. Let them go. For some people, it's the current problem. Learn, and move on. If you want to see movement in your life, recognize that your location is never meant to be permanent. Your location is always dynamic. When you're on a high enjoy it. But don't think it's always going to be that way. Don't freak out trying to keep it there. Life is a series of ups and downs. Every valley has a lesson that we couldn't get on the mountaintop. It doesn't matter where you are.
Life is a culmination of your actions and decisions up to now.
Life is a culmination of your actions and decisions up to this point. All you need to do is say, “Okay, this is where I'm at. This is where I'm going. How am I going to get there? We want to learn from the past, plan for the future, and be present today. We want to take action today. Every night when we finish up the day, we want to feel like we're one step closer to where we want to go. Understand that the destination is going to change all the time. All you have to do is debrief at the end of the day, learn, and let it go. Start fresh. That's what's going to make all the difference in the world. Stop dragging yesterday into today. That extends your stay at your location.
Do you play to win or play to not lose?
When you're at the mountaintop, you're so afraid of losing it. Just enjoy it. There’s a huge difference between playing to win and playing not to lose. And it seems like when we get up to a nice place, we start to get comfortable. Instead of recognizing that it's just a location, sometimes we make comfortable our destination. That doesn't work because ultimately challenge is what fuels us. Progress is what grows us. And that progress is what gives us happiness. Then helping and serving others is what fulfills us. So don't try to stay someplace either. Don't get stuck. It's a journey. Enjoy the view, move on, and keep going.
Pressure helps you create a diamond.
I don't want you to wake up in the morning and think, “Oh God, another day. Because that means you think your location is your destination.” That is not true. Your location only becomes your destination when you stop pushing forward to something bigger and better. I know you've been knocked down, you've been kicked, you've been pushed down, you've had setbacks, and you've had challenges. It doesn't matter. What matters is the fact that you realize this is just a moment. You realize that these are lessons and if you can push back and learn from these lessons, you're going to come out of it so much better. Each one of these setbacks, each one of these challenges that you encounter is an opportunity to help you grow. It's pressure to help create the diamond that you are supposed to be.
