The Path to a BETTER You

Today’s talk is about BETTER. Everyone wants to be BETTER. I want to be BETTER. You want to be BETTER in your business, your life, and your relationships. You want to be BETTER with your health. We all want BETTER. The mistake we make, we wait for it to happen for things to improve, to get better. And it doesn't work that way. You need three “BETTERs” to get better. Let me tell you what I mean.
1. You need a BETTER YOU.
a. A BETTER MINDSET. You will never grow staring at problems. You will never grow looking at and being consumed by fear. You need a BETTER MINDSET. You must look at where you're going, not the stuff that's in your way.
Let me give you an example. If you had your family in a car and you're down in Florida and you're going to the happiest place on Earth. You're going to Disney World. As you're driving there, a sinkhole opens up in front of you. What will you do? You drive around it. You find another way. Why? Because we're going to the happiest place on Earth. We don't forget where we're going. We have that destination. We just have an obstacle or a challenge and that's it. But why in business, why in life, when something doesn't go the way we expect it do we stop and stare at it? Why do we forget our destination and in the process make everything about the problem, the sinkhole, or how we feel about the sinkhole? Why do we do that?
You will run into challenges. You have stuff that jumps up in front of you and stops you. When I use that Disney example, it's a simple answer. Why don't we not apply that simple answer in life and business? Why are we not just going around it? Because we don't have the right mindset. Because our mindset gets focused on the problem and the emotions of the problem.
That is what we must change. So, when I say for us to have BETTER, we need first to have a BETTER YOU, a better me. I know where I'm going. I know why I am going there. I know the impact it's going to have. I know how cool it's going to be when I get there. I will not let something stop me from going where I'm going. It's just a detour. Stop looking at the problems. Stop camping with your problems. They're just a detour.
b. EXPECTATION vs. EXPECTANCY. Let me explain to you the difference. It sounds very similar. Expectation is where only one solution will solve my issue. Only one solution will move me forward. Only one solution will make me happy. That's a tough thing to do. And sometimes the universe does not allow that to happen. Sometimes we must allow things to go and have a level of expectancy. An Expectancy is here's where I expect good things.
When that happens, when you have expectancy versus expectation, you're taking the blinders off. When you have expectations you will squeeze and push and do everything you possibly can to make that happen. In the meantime, there could be something happening over here or over there that would do exactly what you needed to do. But because you have an expectation, that tunnel vision, you miss out. When you have expectations, you're less creative. When you have expectations, you're less aware of what's going on around you. You're so focused on an outcome. But if you have a level of expectancy, this is the direction I'm going, this is where I want to be and now let me start working toward it. But let me stay aware. Let me see what's going on. Let me zig and zag a little bit so that I can get to where I want to go. As Jefferson once said, “Stay firm on the destination, but flexible on the path.” When I have an expectation, it's the exact opposite.
2. You need BETTER DECISIONS and BETTER ACTIONS. Understand that doing what you've been doing is going to continue to get what you've been getting. Almost anything's better than that. Do you agree? If I bring a higher level, like a higher frequency mindset, if I have expectancy, I have higher energy, I have higher belief, and I know something cool is going to happen, I will start making different decisions. I will start making better decisions and I will follow them up with more intentional expectancy in action. So, the first thing you need is a better you.
3. Now that you're taking the actions you need BETTER FEEDBACK. Every once in a while you need to pop your head up and look to see where you're going. How are you measuring? For most of us, I'm going to tell you right now, we don't measure. We're either getting what we want or we're not. And that's it. Go or no-go. And in the process of doing that, what do we do? We just push harder. Stop doing that. Are you progressing? Are you adjusting and adapting better? Are you making better decisions and actions and getting better feedback? And in that process, you're going to do amazing things.
You can have a BETTER DAY; you can have a BETTER WEEK. You just need to show up with a BETTER YOU, make BETTER DECISIONS, and take BETTER ACTION. And then make sure you're giving yourself BETTER FEEDBACK. That’s it!
